Eco Book Club: The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times by Jane Goodall & Douglas Abrams

  • Teaneck Creek Conservancy 20 Puffin Way Teaneck United States (map)

Due to ongoing renovations at Teaneck Library, the Eco Book Club will be held at Teaneck Creek Conservancy at 20 Puffin Way in Teaneck.

Join Eco Book Club hosted by Teaneck Creek Conservancy and Teaneck Public Library! Eco Book Club is a wonderful gathering of folks who share a love of nature and care for the earth. All are welcome to join in the friendly conversation at our monthly meetings or read along at home.

This month, we're excited to add something new! Join us at 6:30pm for a nature walk before the book discussion. We’ll take a mini-hike through Teaneck Creek Conservancy, exploring signs of hope in the world around us—whether it's new growth, wildlife returning, or the positive results of recent restoration efforts. It's a great way to connect with the themes of the book and experience nature firsthand.

Please remember to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for the walk. Bring binoculars if you have them—though it won’t be a bird-focused walk, they could enhance your experience.

Then, at 7pm, we’ll gather for the book discussion.

In The Book of Hope, Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams engage in intimate, thought-provoking dialogue on one of the most elusive aspects of human nature: hope. Drawing on decades of work that expanded our understanding of humanity and how we can create a better world, the book addresses key questions, such as: How do we stay hopeful when things seem hopeless? How do we nurture hope in children? What is the link between hope and action? Through stories of her transformative experiences—from surviving World War II to her time in Gombe and her role in environmental justice advocacy—Jane shares how she became a messenger of hope, along with profound insights about her next, and perhaps final, adventure.
